Site Description and Habitats The site is a 65 acre island of forest in urbanized East Memphis. It contains some mature upland hardwood forest with a number of very large trees. Understory and ground cover is abundant with buckeye being common. Spring wildflowers are abundant (e.g. Virginia Bluebell, violets, May Apple, etc.). Forest birds are abundant and some aquatic or wetland species occur around ponds present on the site.
Bird species of interest Spring and Fall Migration: Numerous warblers, vireos, thrushes, among other migrants can be found including Magnolia, Blackpoll (spring), Cape May (spring), Blue-winged, and Tennessee Warblers, Yellow-throated and Philadelphia Vireo, and Wood and Swainson's Thrush. Summer: Red-eyed Vireo, Summer Tanager, Green Heron, and Northern Parula. Winter: Song and Swamp Sparrows, Eastern Phoebe, and Winter Wrens may be found around the property. Year-Round: Great Blue Heron nest in the wetland and may be found year round. Go east on Poplar to Ridgeway Road (appx. 0.6 mile). Turn right (south) onto Ridgeway Road and go about 1.2 miles to Quince Road.
